Managing Alternatives Groups Incorporated (MAGI) celebrated its 35th anniversary on December 6, 2024, at the Teresian Daughters of Mary in Davao City. The celebration, themed “Celebrating 35 years of experience, MAGI explores the future with vigor and vitality,” brought together past and present staff, board members, community partners, and stakeholders to commemorate the organization’s significant contributions to development work in the Philippines, Southeast Asia, and Beyond.
Dr. Ma. A. Iris Melliza, Ed.D Chairperson of MAGI’s Board of Trustees, highlighted the organization’s remarkable journey since its founding on March 31, 1989, by visionaries Bert Cacayan and Fely Soledad. What began as an ambitious initiative with 18 staff members has grown into an influential force in development work, touching the lives of thousands across the Philippines and Asia.
The organization’s endurance was symbolically linked to its coral anniversary, drawing parallels between coral’s resilience against ocean forces and MAGI’s ability to withstand the test of time while maintaining its commitment to service.

Evolution of Programs and Services
Current Executive Director Cris S. Chanyee presented MAGI’s comprehensive program evolution over the past 35 years. The organization started with five key programs that continue to shape its work today:
- Training and Resource Development Services (TRDS)
- Project Development and Consultancy Services (PDCS)
- Community Resource Development Services (CRDS)
- Research Documentation and Publication Services (RDPS)
- Institutional Strengthening and Administration Support Services (ISSAS)
MAGI’s geographical reach has expanded significantly from its initial focus on Mindanao. By 2000, the organization had extended its services Philippines-wide and into Southeast Asia, working with partners in Nepal, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and various Asian regions.

The anniversary celebration included special recognition for key leaders who shaped MAGI’s history. The late Ediseo E.
